Heroes of Tomorrow Scholarships & Awards

ACADEMIC EXCELLENCE SCHOLARSHIP

The scholarship goes to the top High school/HBCU attendee recipient. This award is named after the founder of the Heroes of Tomorrow Scholarship, Dr. Edmond Kelly Jr. Academic Excellence Award (This award will be for High school/HBCU students only).

This award would not be possible if Dr. Kelly did not follow through with God’s plan. Generations before him established a spiritual legacy within him which he accredits his family as the guiding light to his achievements. As a philanthropist, author of ‘How One Choice Directs Your Destiny' three-part series, founder of Crossover Kellection, mentor, father, and friend and with God’s gifts, he did not allow himself to succumb to life’s trials and tribulations while growing up in a low/middle-income household where drugs, gangs, and violence were ungodly factors. Dr. Kelly felt that a strong education for minority students will be the driving force to be a blessing to others in need and help reeducate students that the color of their skin does not dictate the content of their character.  A passage from Dr. Kelly’s book, ‘How One Choice Directs Your Destiny' The Book of Triumph., states that “You will never process progress if you see success as something less than best.” Dr. Kelly believed that the ‘impossible is possible’ which is why his name is connected to the top award. By his faith in God, he will make the impossible possible for minority students in financial need.

GUIDING LIGHT SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship goes to the top middle school recipient. This award is based on the president of Heroes of Tomorrow Scholarship Fund, Mrs. Felicia Kelly called the Guiding Light Award (this award will be for middle school students only).

Mrs. Felicia Kelly grew up throughout the city of Chicago dealing with life’s uncertainties of violence and racial discrimination. More than enough times throughout her years of being in academic establishments, she was teased, bullied, demeaned, and discriminated against. Mrs. Kelly was once that little minority girl who was tested academically, financially, and spiritually, but remained faithful in God’s light as in Psalm 27:1 “The LORD is my light and my salvation— whom shall I fear? The LORD is the stronghold of my life— of whom shall I be afraid?” Through those trials, Mrs. Kelly saw redemption. She graduated from grade school and high school with honors, put herself through college and graduated, became a beautiful wife, and mother of two children. With this honor, the light will always shine only if a student will believe in Him. There will be struggles, temptations, and tough roads ahead, but with God’s light, any student can achieve His excellence. The same way Mrs. Felicia Kelly has achieved and will continue to be God’s light for minority students in a financial need.

NOBLE LIFE SCHOLARSHIP

This scholarship will be awarded based on the pure godly excellence of any Black & Brown student in both middle school and high school and/or families in financial need. This award will not require an application. This award is based on the next generation of educators, Zoey and Elicia Kelly named the Noble Life Award (this award will be for both middle/high school students).

As both children have been blessed with opportunities to succeed, both children live a life of humility. Zoey which means ‘Life in Christ’ has continued to find ways to provide love and forgiveness to those in emotional distress. Elicia which means ‘Noble exalted/God’s salvation’ demonstrates God’s Truth, Trust, and Triumph. The meaning of their names combined provides a foundation and pillars of walking the path that Jesus Christ has set before us. As minority students being raised in a questionable time, God has taught them that regardless of the world’s circumstance, faith in Him will always help us overcome obstacles. Our young minority educators will not just overcome someday, but overcome today.
